Yaldhurst Cleanfill

Christchurch Quarry Clean Fill

Used for farming and cropping before being developed as a land based quarry, the Yaldhurst Gravel Pit was established in the 1970s, supplying the mid-Canterbury area.

Winstone Aggregates took it over from Firth in 1993 but in 1996 the original fixed plant was decommissioned due to its close proximity to neighbours, and the growing distance between the extraction face and the processing plant. For a time it was semi-portable, using a kitset which moved to follow the material face but, over time, this concept was offset by costs associated with relocating the plant and services around the site.
When manufacturing aggregate and sand for concrete came to an end in 2020 the quarry became a cleanfill site for the Christchurch region and is now known as the Yaldhurst Cleanfill.
